Representative Troy Announces Over $340,000 to Lakeland Community College for Security Enhancements and Robotics Equipment

COLUMBUS- State Representative Daniel Troy (D-Willowick) today announced that the Ohio Controlling Board has approved $341,075 for security system enhancements and new robotics equipment at Lakeland Community College.
“We are thankful to the Ohio Controlling Board for the approval of funds vital to Lakeland Community College,” said Lakeland President Sunil Ahuja. “We remain immensely grateful to Rep. Troy, and to our delegation in Columbus, for his steadfast support for Lakeland Community College
Of this funding, $197,741 comes from the Campus Safety Grant Program to strengthen Lakeland’s campus security. The funds support the purchase and installation of electronic access controls on multiple exterior doors, upgrades to the security camera system – including replacement of outdated cameras and the addition of new exterior cameras, and the purchase of a radio booster to improve communication between first responders and college dispatchers. Lakeland has contracted with Integrated Precision Systems (Valley View, OH) and CommServ (Painesville, OH) to implement these changes.
The remaining $143,334, a Workforce Based Training Grant, will be used to purchase new robotics equipment from IST Ohio, Inc. (Lexington, OH).
“[This] grant will allow us to add robotics to our expanding portfolio in engineering technologies for the training and education of current and future students interested in pursuing careers in robotics. Given the strong manufacturing industry base in Lake County and the importance of workforce development to the college’s mission, robotics will be a welcome addition for our students, the college, and the economic community in the county,” shared President Ahuja.
In addition to new courses and workforce training opportunities in robotic manufacturing, the new equipment will also enable Engineering Technology students to earn industry-recognized credentials in FANUC equipment operation, electrical maintenance, and programing.
“I am glad to ensure that institutions of higher education like Lakeland Community College continue to receive the necessary state funding to support their operation and expansion,” said Rep. Troy. “These improvements to the campus security system and the new robotics equipment will surely have a positive impact on Lakeland, its students, and our local economy.”
