COLUMBUS– State Representative Daniel P. Troy (D-Willowick) today announced that the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) is offering $500,000 from the Waterways Safety Fund to provide education and safety equipment for school districts, universities, non-profits, and other eligible organizations. ODNR is also offering a free, in-person grant workshop with remote options available.

“As an elected official in a lakefront district, I encourage local eligible entities to take advantage of these available dollars to help increase awareness of how to more safely enjoy the wonderful benefits of our Great Lake Erie,” said Representative Troy.

Funding ranges from $1000 to $30,000 with grantee cost share or in-kind contribution of 25%. Grants support the purchasing of safety equipment such as kayaks, life jackets, and trailers. The application deadline is Dec. 1.

A free grant workshop will be offered by ODNR in Columbus on Nov. 3. Topics that will be covered include the application process and types of projects that are eligible for funding. To register for the upcoming workshop, click here.

The funding is made available through the Waterways Safety Fund, which comes from a share of the state motor fuel tax, watercraft registration and titling fees, and funding from the U.S. Coast Guard.
