Representative Daniel Troy Announces Grant Funding for Police Body Worn Camera Programs in Eastlake, Timberlake, & Gates Mills
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Daniel Troy (D-Willowick) today announced that the Ohio Department of Public Safety has awarded $50,710 to Eastlake, $12,340 to Timberlake, and $10,920 to Gates Mills through the Body-Worn Camera Grant Program. These funds will be used to establish new body-worn camera programs for the Eastlake and Timberlake Police Departments and will provide continued funding for the Gates Mills Police Department’s existing program.
The Body-Worn Camera Grant Program was established in the 2021 Biennial Operating Budget. The program was created to help offset the cost of purchasing and maintaining body-worn cameras for Ohio police forces, ensuring that this essential equipment is accessible to law enforcement agencies across the state.
“As a member of the House Finance and Appropriations Committee, I strongly supported this program’s inclusion in the budget bill. I’m glad to see that these three communities in my Ohio House District were chosen to receive these funds to assist our first responders as they perform their public safety functions,” said Rep. Troy.
Nearly $4.6 million was distributed to 131 police and sheriff’s departments across the state through this grant program, including 21 departments that will use this funding to start new body-worn camera programs.
Other area police departments receiving grant funding include Kirtland Hills, Euclid, Mayfield Heights, Cleveland Heights, and the Cleveland State University Police Department.
