COLUMBUS – State Rep. Daniel P. Troy (D-Willowick) congratulates Laketran for being awarded a $14.7 million Federal Transit Administration grant. The funding will allow communities in the Northeast Ohio to make essential changes and upgrades to their existing facilities. These improvements will help to increase safety amongst transit workers and passengers as well as improve transit reliability.

"While serving as a state representative in the early 90s, I secured funding for the construction of Laketran's current facility, which is located in my district. Now, 30 years later, the building requires updating and expansion, and I'm again proud to have supported Laketran by drafting and submitting a letter to the Federal Transit Administration in support of their application for this funding. Congratulations to everyone from Laketran on this impressive accomplishment, and thank you for continuing to make our community a better place to live and work," said Rep. Troy.

Laketran plans to use the funding to renovate and modernize its main headquarters in Painesville Township, supporting local commerce by creating good-paying jobs and ensuring Lake County residents have access to high-quality public transportation.

According to Laketran CEO Ben Capelle, the grant process was hyper-competitive and support from state and local officials was instrumental.

"We greatly appreciate Rep. Troy for his ongoing support of public transit. These federal funds are very competitive, and we're only successful with the support of our state and local officials," Capelle said in a statement.

Construction is set to begin later this year. To learn more about Laketran and its services, visit laketran.com or call (440) 525-3872.
