Rep. Troy announces bill honoring Lake County hero signed into law
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Daniel P. Troy (D-Willowick) announced that Gov. DeWine has signed House Bill (HB) 291 into law, a bill he jointly sponsored with Rep. Jamie Callendar (R-Concord) that designates a portion of State Route 86 in Lake County as the "SSG Kyle R. McKee Memorial Highway."
"Staff Sergeant Kyle McKee is a hero who died protecting everything we as Americans cherish. Kyle made the ultimate sacrifice, and this legislation will stand as a memorial to Kyle's service and the loss suffered by the McKee family and the Lake County community," Rep. Troy said.
On Nov. 12, 2020, Staff Sergeant McKee and five other soldiers were killed when their UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter crashed during a peacekeeping mission in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula. During his service, Staff Sergeant McKee received over 20 military awards, including the Army Achievement Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
