COLUMBUS – State Rep. Daniel Troy (D-Willowick) today announced that Laketran will receive $800K for the Shoregate Transfer Center Improvement Project in the City of Willowick. This funding enables Laketran to begin building stronger infrastructure at a key economic job transit exchange. The site currently sees more than 4,000 monthly transfers between GCRTA and Laketran, with a large share of these trips being work-related.

“I am pleased that my colleagues and I were able to make this funding available in House Bill 23, our biennial transportation budget. It is certainly in Ohio’s best interest to remove barriers and improve the ability for people to get to work,” said Rep. Troy.

Lake County was one of 16 counties that received funding through the Ohio Workforce Mobility Partnership Program (OWMP). The program was created to support transportation projects that easily and efficiently transport workers to economically significant employment centers or to places of employment outside of their home community.

“In my previous tenure in the Ohio House, I was able to help secure $1.7 million from Ohio's Public Transit Capital Fund for the construction of their original headquarters facility, and am now certainly proud 30 years later to continue supporting Laketran. This particular project in Lake County’s western most community will allow for greater collaboration between Laketran and the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority in their efforts to transport workers to their jobs in Lake and Cuyahoga counties,” said Rep. Troy.

Rep. Troy is a key member of the Ohio House Finance Committee and has been a vocal proponent of using state funding to improve workforce participation. This particular funding will assist in that effort, and builds on increased childcare funding that Rep. Troy advocated for in the state operating budget to help single working mothers stay in or re-enter the labor force.
