Rep. Troy Announces $100K in State Investment to Grow Ohio Wine Industry
COLUMBUS - State Rep. Daniel P. Troy (D-Willowick) today announced $100,735 in state funding that the Ohio Department of Agriculture and the Ohio Grape Industries Council (OGIC) will use to contract with Great Lakes Publishing Co. to provide marketing and promotion materials for Ohio’s wine industry.
“I am pleased to announce this funding to help promote our outstanding Ohio wine industry,” said Rep. Troy. “According to a 2016 economic impact study, with only 265 wineries at the time, the industry added $1.31 billion to Ohio's economy and more than 8,000 full-time jobs. This investment will provide a return in quality of life and tax revenue.”
Rep. Troy’s home county of Lake includes much of Ohio’s Grand River Valley. Funding will provide cooperative print advertising in various 2024 & 2025 issues of Cleveland Magazine and Ohio Magazine; a cooperative photography program; TourismOhio App Sponsorship; TourismOhio Travel Planner Map; Sip magazine creation; and Ohio Wine Guide design + insertion into Sip magazine.
Rep. Troy serves as the ranking member of the Finance Subcommittee on Agriculture, Development, and Natural Resources. The Department of Agriculture reports to this committee, and Rep. Troy advocated for this proposal in last year’s Operating Budget, and he has long been considered one of the stronger supporters of Ohio’s growing wine industry.
