COLUMBUS – State Representative Daniel Troy (D-Willowick) yesterday praised the citizens of Ohio for their overwhelming support in defeating Issue 1 during the August 8th Special Election.

“This was a great victory for “We the People” in Ohio. Concerted efforts to reduce the power of the citizens in our democracy were rejected by the voters. I am thrilled that this issue was defeated by an almost 2 to 1 margin in my Ohio House district.”

“Asking the people to surrender their power to serve as a check and balance on the actions of elected officials and special interests was a horrible idea; it’s time we stop trying to “change the rules” in the middle of the game, especially during a mid-summer special election and hope that nobody’s paying attention. Thank you, Ohio, for paying attention and protecting our government of, by and for the people!” said Representative Troy

The defeat of Issue 1 is a significant victory for safeguarding Ohio’s democratic process while respecting the diverse opinions of its citizens. It ensures that future constitutional changes will reflect the majority’s will and uphold the principle of “one person, one vote.”

In the Legislature, Representative Troy voted against placing Issue 1—an election that costs the taxpayers an estimated $20 million--before the voters.
