COLUMBUS – The Ohio House Democratic Caucus today held a voting caucus where it selected Cincinnati's Ashley Bryant Bailey as its selection to fill the Ohio House District 26 seat recently vacated by former state Rep. Sedrick Denson.

“Ashley is an extremely well-respected public servant with deep roots in Cincinnati and an impressive resume as a changemaker across the country. House Democrats are excited for Ashley to join our caucus in Columbus and for what she will do for the people of Cincinnati,” said House Minority Leader Dani Isaacsohn (D-Cincinnati).

Mrs. Bryant Bailey is a native of Cincinnati, graduated from Walnut Hills High School and attended college at the University of Cincinnati. She currently works for Higher Heights for America, a political action committee that supports Black women running for office. She was one of five individuals who live in the district to apply with the House Democrats’ screening panel, led by Rep. Daniel Troy (D-Willowick), and who interviewed to succeed former Rep. Denson.

“I want to thank all the applicants for their time and dedication to public service. While they all had unique and impressive backgrounds, the screening committee felt Mrs. Bryant Bailey was the best candidate who could hit the ground running and work the hardest for the people of Cincinnati and all of Ohio. I’m grateful that the rest of my colleagues in the House Democratic Caucus supported our nominee and I look forward to Mrs. Bryant Bailey receiving a full vote of support at our next session,” said Rep. Troy, dean of the House Democratic Caucus.

According to Article II, Section 11 of the Ohio Constitution, a vacancy in the House of Representatives shall be filled by a simple majority floor vote by the members of the caucus for which the seat was vacated. The next scheduled House session is October 1st.
