Trump's Chaotic Federal Funding Attack Only First Step in Plan to Rip-off Ohioans
COLUMBUS — State Rep. Crystal Lett (D-Columbus) today released the following statement concerning President Trump’s retreat from his unlawful attempt last week to halt federal grants, loans, and other financial assistance programs:
“Federal aid isn’t a political weapon—it’s a lifeline for millions of Americans. President Trump’s reckless approach threatens our communities, and I will continue to stand firmly against any effort to play politics with people’s lives,” said Rep. Lett.
This decision would have had a devastating impact on Ohio’s essential state programs, including services for children, seniors, individuals with disabilities, Medicaid, school meals, housing assistance, SNAP and food aid, and the vital work of nonprofits. Hundreds of programs that support every corner of Ohio and the nation were put at risk by this intentionally confusing order.
While this attempt was reversed due to public pressure, Republicans remain focused on pushing massive federal spending cuts that would gut critical programs and services that everyday Ohioans rely on. These cuts aren’t just numbers on a balance sheet—they represent real, harmful consequences for working families, children’s health, the disability community, and seniors across our state. I remain committed to fighting for policies that protect and uplift those who need them most.
