Ohio Ballot Board's Misleading, Rigged Outcome Approved by Republicans Afraid of Issue 1

COLUMBUS – Ohio House Minority Leader Allison Russo (D-Upper Arlington) and State Representative Terrence Upchurch (D-Cleveland) today released statements following the final approval by the Ohio Ballot Board of purposely misleading and false Issue 1 ballot language:

“Before the first Ballot Board meeting even began, this outcome was predetermined because Republicans like Frank LaRose know their gerrymandered grip on power in Ohio is on the brink of collapse. Being predictable as extremists are when they sense defeat at the hands of the voters, LaRose scurried back to the MAGA playbook of lies, misinformation, and fear mongering hoping to distract the people from the truth,” said Leader Russo. “Ohioans are exhausted and frustrated seeing these lies and cheap tricks play out daily this election season. That’s why they will vote ‘yes’ on Issue 1 to make sure it’s citizens, not politicians, making the decisions about our future.”

Rep. Upchurch represents the House Democrats on the Ohio Ballot Board and voted repeatedly against attempts to pass any form of misleading ballot language.

“The final language approved by the majority on the Ballot Board does not, and never has, represented the viewpoint of the majority of Ohioans. Frank LaRose thinks Ohio’s voters can be fooled, so he maliciously fought for false, misleading, and frankly bizarre ballot language hoping it would confuse them. Ohioans are too smart for these silly games, and they know exactly what gerrymandering is. That’s why they will vote ‘yes’ on Issue 1 in November to end it and begin the dismantling of extremists Republicans grip on power in Ohio,” said Rep. Upchurch.

The final day to register to vote in the November general election is Monday, October 7th.
