Minority Leader Russo Calls HJR 1 Discharge Petition Another Attempt By Republicans to Shamelessly Rewrite the Rules

COLUMBUS- State Rep. Allison Russo (D-Upper Arlington) today released the following statement concerning the discharged petition on HJR 1 that was filed with the House Clerk’s Office: 

“By ramming this undemocratic, unpopular, and unfair resolution through the process without public input, some House Republicans are, once again, orchestrating a direct attack on the fundamental freedom to make decisions that affect our lives,” said Minority Leader Russo. “Ohioans deserve to know the truth that there are some out-of-touch, extremist politicians who are beholden to special interest groups behind this petition. They will do whatever it takes, including rewriting the rules, so they can get what they want instead of what the people of Ohio want.” 

A discharge petition needs a 50% + 1 vote to circumvent the committee process and the speaker of the house to make it to the floor for a vote.
