Leader Russo Announces Approval of $1.6M in Matching Funds for Microelectronics Equipment at The Ohio State University
COLUMBUS - House Minority Leader Allison Russo (D-Upper Arlington) Monday announced that the Controlling Board has approved the release of more than $1.6M to provide matching funds for microelectronics equipment at The Ohio State University.
“The future of manufacturing lies in high-tech materials and engineering,” said Leader Russo. “With these matching funds, we can support channels of success in micro-technology from research to manufacturing. This investment will not only create more jobs in our state but encourage more investments in semiconductor manufacturing and workforce development by providing sophisticated and well-established pillars of support.”
Matching funds allow universities to compete more effectively for federal or other peer-reviewed research support by providing additional dollars for university research proposals that include capital equipment or facilities. The funds released today will support the Ohio State Microelectronics Innovation and Technology Cluster (MITEC), a state-of-the-art shared user facility to support the Department of Defense Microelectronics initiative.
The MITEC meets the state’s strategic initiatives for Centers of Excellence in materials, manufacturing technologies, nanotechnology, and the Third Frontier focus area of Advanced Materials. This facility will provide users with better compatibility for compound semiconductor microelectronics technologies, from early semiconductor processing to complete device prototype fabrication
