Reps. Sweeney, Crossman hold Virtual Ohio Promise Town Hall
COLUMBUS – On Monday, State Reps. Bride Rose Sweeney (D-Cleveland) and Jeff Crossman (D-Parma) held a virtual community town hall as part of the Ohio Promise Virtual Town Hall Tour, a series of digital events this summer where local lawmakers bring the Statehouse to your house and discuss important topics such as COVID-19, jobs and the economy, and education.
“Although the GOP-led Ohio House is on recess during this economic and public health crisis, my office and I are still working hard to help folks navigate the unemployment system and make their voices heard in our state government,” said Rep. Sweeney. “Many of my constituents have reached out about how schools will face the challenges of educating in a pandemic, and I am especially concerned for households without reliable internet access or even enough food on the table. It’s important that teachers, students, staff and their families get accurate information about the upcoming school year and know what to expect.”
The Ohio Promise Virtual Town Hall Tour is a follow-up to the more than 25 in-person events Democratic lawmakers held in the summer of 2019. The digital events allow constituents to hear from lawmakers, ask questions and offer input on ways to address the issues facing their communities.
“I was pleased to take part of a very productive conversation with Rep. Sweeney, Dr. Smialek, and CEO Gordon about what parents should expect this upcoming school year,” said Rep. Crossman. “Many important decisions have been left up to the discretion of local districts, and it is imperative that parents are confident that their students will receive the best education possible and as safely as possible. My main concern as a legislator is that students, parents and educators receive the support they need to succeed in this new environment. We want our students to continue to grow and learn.”
Democrats say the uncertainty felt by many in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, economic recession and civil unrest makes now the right time to get out and listen to what everyday Ohioans have to say.
