Rep. Sweeney votes to deliver $32.5 million in American Rescue Plan funds to local governments in Cuyahoga County
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Bride Rose Sweeney (D-Cleveland) today voted in favor of House Bill (HB) 377, bipartisan legislation to release the second, $442 million batch of local government funding from President Biden’s American Rescue Plan to Ohio’s cities, villages and townships serving 50,000 people or less. Communities of more than 50,000 people receive their allocation directly from the federal government.
HB 377 brings the total distribution to local governments to $844 million. The distribution amounts are in accordance with a population-based formula from the American Rescue Plan Act and guidance issued by the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
“From police and fire to sanitation and road repair, our cities, villages and townships provide the fundamental public services necessary to a high quality of life for Ohio’s 11.7 million citizens,” said Rep. Sweeney. “Local governments are truly the bedrock of free and civil society, and I’m proud that President Biden and Democrats are taking steps to support those who support us. I will continue to push to invest in our communities by restoring the Local Government Fund and fully funding the new school funding system.”
House Bill 377 now heads to the Ohio Senate for further consideration. If the bill is enacted, local governments in Cuyahoga County will receive the following funds:
