Rep. Sweeney Receives Friend of Ohio Federation of Teachers Award
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Bride Rose Sweeney (D-Westlake) today was presented with the Ohio Federation of Teachers’ (OFT) 2024 Friend of OFT Award for her legislative work to support public school teachers and increase state funding for public schools as the lead Democratic sponsor of the bipartisan Fair School Funding Plan.
“Ensuring that every Ohioan, regardless of where they live, has access to an affordable, quality education is the single most important investment we can make in Ohio’s future,” said Rep. Sweeney. “Supporting and empowering Ohio’s public school teachers is vital to securing Ohio’s continued economic & social well-being, and I am honored to have their support for the Friend of Ohio Federation of Teachers Award.”
As the lead sponsor of the Fair School Funding Plan, which became law on July 1, 2021, Rep. Sweeney successfully delivered on a nearly decade-long bipartisan effort to overhaul Ohio’s broken and unconstitutional school funding formula.
Once the Fair School Funding Plan is fully funded, the plan will provide nearly $2B for public education and job training. The historic passage of the Fair School Funding Plan in 2021 and its continued funding in last year’s biennial state operating budget represent a significant step towards putting the needs of our children first and reducing the state’s over-reliance on property taxes.
