Rep. Sweeney Continues to Seek Answers and Protections for Purged Ohio Voters in Upcoming Election as Clock Ticks
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Bride Rose Sweeney (D-Westlake) today sent a letter to Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose following up on the recent discovery that some voters appear to have been purged in error and demanding that purged voters will have the opportunity to vote and have their votes counted in next week’s election.
“Secretary LaRose has made several concerning and contradictory statements since it became public that he conducted a voter purge with voting already underway for November 7th,” said Rep. Sweeney. “No Ohioan should be denied their freedom to vote because of an error or – even worse – because of a hyperpartisan secretary of state. I am once again calling on Secretary LaRose to give Ohioans the answers they deserve and ensure that anyone wrongfully purged will have their vote count.”
Provisional ballot reports by the secretary’s office from the August special election show that purged voters’ ballots were not counted as they had been in previous elections. But a recent news report indicated that the secretary’s office may intend to count purged voters’ ballots this November. Rep. Sweeney’s letter seeks clarity on these and other statements and requests records from the secretary’s office.
