Rep Sweeney Announces $4.95M for Affordable Housing Opportunities in Cuyahoga County
COLUMBUS - State Rep. Bride Rose Sweeney (D-Westlake) Monday announced $4.95M in funding has been awarded to the Cuyahoga County Land Reutilization Corporation through the state’s Welcome Home Ohio program to expand affordable housing opportunities and help more Ohioans achieve the dream of homeownership.
“If Ohio wants to sustain a growing economy and eliminate barriers for those entering the workforce, investing in housing is essential,” said Rep. Sweeney. “This investment in affordable housing will help lay the foundation for Northeast Ohio’s families, businesses, and communities to flourish, creating pathways to homeownership for more Ohioans and strengthening our local economy.”
The Ohio General Assembly allocated $100M in total to the Welcome Home Ohio program in House Bill 33, the state operating budget for FY 2024-2025, which Rep. Sweeney helped shepherd through the House as ranking member of the House Finance Committee.
State grant funds will be used to purchase 18 newly constructed homes in Cuyahoga County, which will then be sold to income-eligible Ohioans. The program, administered by the Ohio Department of Development, uses grants and tax incentives to help landbanks purchase, rehabilitate, or build qualifying residential properties for income-eligible Ohioans.
