Rep. Sweeney Announces $31M in State Funds for JumpStart Inc. to Support Technology Start-Ups in Northeast Ohio

COLUMBUS — State Rep. Bride Rose Sweeney (D-Westlake) today announced that the Controlling Board approved $31.1M for Cleveland’s JumpStart Inc. as part of the Department of Development’s Entrepreneurial Services Provider Program. Jumpstart will utilize the funds to support technology-related start-ups and entrepreneurs in the Northeast Ohio region.

“Northeast Ohio has always been a region of innovation,” said Rep. Sweeney. “I’m excited to see how these funds continue to support research, collaboration, and ingenuity in our tech and start-up sectors.”

JumpStart will match the state funds with another $31M. Funding will support programming and support services provided by JumpStart in collaboration with regional partners including the Cleveland Water Alliance, Cleveland Clinic, Ohio Aerospace Institute, and Case Western Reserve University. Other approved Controlling Board items include:

  1. $40M to provide utility assistance to low-income Ohioans.
  2. $24M to obtain emergency medical equipment for Ohio’s incarcerated population.
