COLUMBUS – The State Controlling Board today approved a request for $5,282,444 from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources for local park projects statewide. State Representative Brian Stewart (R-Ashville) commended the state’s funding for much-need projects.

“I’m excited to see this funding coming to Fairfield and Morgan counties to help our local parks with these projects and keep our communities involved,” said Stewart. “I applaud the work of everyone who submitted requests and the State Controlling Board’s action today on these requests.”

The board approved two projects in Fairfield County for a total of $89,342 in state-funding. The projects include improving a baseball field in Otte Park off Summit Street, and developing loop trails at AHA! Children’s Park in Lancaster.

The board also approved today a project for $65,494 in Grove Park in Morgan County. The funding will go towards the construction of a new sidewalk, wrought iron entrance and lamp posts.

The funding comes from a NatureWorks grant program that was established through H.B. 790 in the 120th General Assembly. This year, local governments in 79 Ohio counties submitted a total of 210 applications requesting a total of $11,662,208 in grant funding. All were thoroughly evaluated, and 115 projects were selected and awarded a total of $5,282,444.
