Richfield Heritage Preserve Awarded Funding in Capital Budget

COLUMBUS—State Rep. Bill Roemer (R-Richfield) met with Richfield Joint Recreation District Board Chairperson Anita Gantner, Park Director John Piepsny, and RJRD Board Vice Chairman Dr. Mike Selig, to discuss funding received from Substitute House Bill 2, in conjunction with State Senator Roegner, the state’s two-year construction budget for capital projects across Ohio.

Richfield Heritage Preserve will receive $150,000 to improve the Buckeye Trail. The first improvement is moving the Trail off the main driveway into the adjacent woods. The second improvement is replacing a pedestrian bridge that the Trail utilizes. Lastly, the project will revitalize the main entrance to the park and the Buckeye Trail by improving the landscaping, making some needed driveway improvements, and improving signage.

“The Richfield Heritage Preserve is a 336-acre area where community members can experience a wide range of outdoor activities, including hiking, fishing, boating, horse trails, and more,” said Roemer. “By improving the portion of the Buckeye Trail that winds through the Preserve, we are creating sustainable and accessible improvements for all residents to enjoy.”

"For small park systems like the Richfield Heritage Preserve, state funding is so important,” said Dr. Selig. “We have already been able to use it in the past to help complete the Kirby’s Mill dam renovation and look forward to the planned improvements for the Buckeye Trail and front entrance that this current round of funding will allow.  We are so appreciative of the continued support provided by Rep. Roemer for our park!"

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed the legislation on June 28. The legislation maintains Richfield Heritage Preserve’s trails, perfect for a weekend stroll or a challenging hike.
