WESTERVILLE – State Representative Bill Roemer (R – Richfield) was recently awarded the David C. Rinebolt Community Service Award as the Ohio Partners for Affordable Energy’s Legislator of the Year.

Representative Roemer earned this award due to his tireless work on legislation to allow energy efficiency programming for low-income utility customers to continue in Ohio.

State law required electric distribution utilities to implement energy efficiency programs to help reduce energy bills for low-income customers. This arrangement was set to expire at the end of 2020, but legislation sponsored by Representative Roemer allowed these programs to continue through the end of 2021. Programming in Ohio typically works to boost efficiency through interventions like home weatherization and appliance upgrades.

“I was honored to receive this award from OPAE in recognition of our accomplishments on home weatherization. Because of these interventions, over 1,000 families across Ohio will see their energy bills reduced, keeping their families safe and comfortable all year round,” said Roemer.
