Rep. Somani Commends Supreme Court's Decision Supporting Reproductive Freedom
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Anita Somani (D-Dublin) today commends the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling on access to the abortion pill mifepristone, which has been used by more than five million people in the United States.
“The Supreme Court stands on the right side of history by ruling that anti-abortion activists have no standing to sue the FDA for its authorization of mifepristone. Access to this vital medication is crucial for the protection of reproductive rights. However, the fight is not yet over. SCOTUS left the door open for future lawsuits because they didn’t address the portion regarding the FDA standards. We must push for the repeal of archaic state laws, like mandatory 24 hour waiting periods, that restrict access to abortion,” said Rep. Somani.
The drug mifepristone has been found to be even safer and more effective by the Food and Drug Administration since it was originally approved in 2000.
