Rep. Somani Commemorates Roe v. Wade Anniversary
COLUMBUS — State Rep. Anita Somani (D-Dublin) today honored the 52nd anniversary of the historic Roe v. Wade U.S. Supreme Court decision. Since that day in 1973, the reproductive rights movement has been under attack by those who seek to control decisions that a person makes about their own health. Unfortunately, these attacks were successful in overturning this decision on the federal level in 2022.
“Despite a majority of Ohioans voting in 2023 to protect reproductive rights in Ohio, we still have an array of laws on the books that serve no purpose other than to create barriers to the access of care. As a legislature, we must repeal these now unconstitutional laws instead of wasting time and money on drawn-out lawsuits,” said Rep. Somani. “Abortion is a medical procedure, and it should not be subject to partisan political attacks. Reproductive care decisions should be between a patient and their healthcare provider, not between a politician and their constituents.”
Roe v. Wade is a landmark decision that gave women autonomy over their bodies and futures by guaranteeing the right to abortion. This is a moment in history that should be celebrated in the fight for liberty and justice for all.
