COLUMBUS – State Representatives Angie King (R-Celina) and Roy Klopfenstein (R-Haviland) has introduced legislation to help protect against the purchase of private agricultural land by foreign nations.

The Ohio Property Protection Act will prohibit a business that is directly or indirectly owned or controlled by foreign adversarial nation from purchasing land in the State of Ohio.

“Agriculture is Ohio’s number one contributor to our $698 billion economy,” said King. “We must protect this land from outside nations wanting to remove economic value of our state for the benefit of another nation. We are seeing nations like China, Russia, Iran and other foreign adversaries attempting to make large purchases of land in other states near military installations. This is not only a threat to our economy, but also to our state and nations security.”

The legislation now awaits assignment to a House committee.
