State Representative Adam Holmes visits Genesis Hospital
ZANESVILLE – State Representative Adam Holmes is visiting Genesis Hospital to learn about how Muskingum Starlight Industries helps local businesses hire and retain great employees. Knowing the importance of workforce development in our region, he will be learning how Muskingum Starlight Industries supports local employers and improves employment outcomes for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This visit will be at 1pm on Friday, October 22nd, at 2951 Maple Ave. Zanesville.
Mary Thompson-Hufford, CEO of Muskingum Starlight Industries shared “employers like Genesis Hospital make a tremendous difference, through employment people earn income, build relationships with their coworkers and reduce their reliance on paid support from the Developmental Disabilities system, it's a big win for everyone”.
Job coaching services are provided by a Muskingum Starlight Industries staff member who works with the new employee and the employer to develop clear expectations of tasks to be performed. These tasks are taught to the new employee using methods that best meet their learning style. The MSI employment specialist essentially starts the new job right along with the new employee.
The staff member checks in with the employee and employer to ensure continued success and to address any potential pitfalls that could lead to the loss of employment. Once the new employee understands and is comfortable performing their work tasks, the staff member fades into services called follow-along supports. Follow-along services are typically provided twice a month.
