Holmes Supports Capital Budget, Funding Local Communities
COLUMBUS –Representative Adam Holmes (R-Nashport) applauded the passage of House Bill 687, the state’s two-year, $3.5 billion capital budget, Wednesday.
Part of the Capital Budget will provide $27.5 million to the Muskingum River Lock and Dam project. These funds will be used to make improvements to the locks and dams on the Muskingum River Parkway to bring the structure into compliance with Ohio dam safety laws.
“The Muskingum River has been an economic driver of our community throughout our rich history,” said Holmes. “I’m so glad we could get these funds in the Capital Budget to ensure our lock and dam system continues to support economic activity on the river.”
The legislation will also make appropriations that will fund the following 97th House District projects:
- The National Road Museum will receive $500,000 for upgrades and replacement of exhibits;
- Zane State College will receive $1.6 million for campus renovations;
- Ohio University Regional Campus will receive $475,000 for building improvements;
- Mid-East CTC will receive $300,000 to start a CDL training and testing center in Zanesville;
- Muskingum University will receive $250,000 to update the Boyd Science Center;
- $125,000 will be used to replace the windows of the Forever Dads Historic Building;
- $75,000 will be used to renovate the New Concord Swimming Pool;
- The City of Zanesville will receive $50,000 for the development of the Zanesville Gateway District;
- The ZMA will receive $50,000 for repairs and HVAC replacement;
- Muskingum Behavioral Health will received $25,000 for exterior repairs
- The Wilds will receive $1 million for infrastructure improvements;
- The Guernsey Barn and Show Arena will receive $300,000 for a new fair building construction;
- The Ohio Hills Quaker City Health Center will receive $100,000 to upgrade their facility;
- The Village of Byesville will receive $90,000 for improvements at Patriot Park;
- Salt Fork State Park will receive $50,000 for trail improvements.
“The organizations receiving these funds are bettering the lives of Ohioans in every area; from education, to healthcare, to recreation,” said Holmes. “It is a privilege to advocate for them in this budget.”
The bill also includes $100 million to help public and private schools address local building security needs, $600 million for public school building construction and renovation and $400 million for the Public Works Commission to support local road, bridge and water projects.
The legislation also passed the Ohio Senate on Wednesday and now heads to the Governor for his signature.
