COLUMBUS – State Rep. Adam Bird (R-New Richmond) highlights crucial funding for the Hamersville and Pierce Township Police Departments to help reduce violent crime in their respective communities. The funding is made available through the Ohio Violent Crime Reduction Grant Program.

“As a General Assembly, we have continuously supported programs like these in order to provide safety to Ohioans,” Bird said. “I am extremely grateful to see this funding come back to the district and work to give our communities the security they need.”

Bird supported House Bill 110, the state operating budget, which is funding the program to assist local law enforcement in finding solutions to reduce violent crime. The grants will help fund retention and hiring bonuses in an effort to recruit and maintain officers most equipped for preventing and investigating violent crime.

The Hamersville Police Department is set to receive $163,967 and the Pierce Township Police Department is set to receive $226,931 through the grant program.

Overall, the program will be awarding a total of $100 million across the state. This most recent round of funding awarded $8.2 million to 13 local and state law enforcement agencies, bringing the total thus far to $45.9 million.
