State Representative Gayle Manning (R-Avon) is pleased to share that the cities of Lorain and North Ridgeville were awarded over $2.1 million through the Ohio Department of Transportation Highway Safety Program.

“Ohioans are always on the go, whether they are making their commute to work, traveling to visit family, or walking to their local town, it’s important that our community roadways and walkways are safe for everyone to make their journey,” said Manning.

Lorain County’s award details are as follows:

  • City of North Ridgeville, sidewalk renovations, $1,892,025
  • City of Lorain, sidewalk and crossings, $250,000

Each year, ODOT’s Highway Safety Improvement Program provides $185M in funding to ODOT district offices and local governments to prevent serious injuries and traffic deaths on Ohio roads.

Through House Bill 54, Ohio’s Transportation Budget, the General Assembly allocated $11.48 billion over the biennium into highway construction and maintenance and provides funding for safety upgrades on Ohio roadways.

According to ODOT, the state has the fifth largest interstate system with more than 8,000 lane miles. Ohio is centrally located within a day's drive of more than 60% of the U.S. and Canadian populations. The state has the nation’s third largest total number of bridges at 26,729 and is fourth in the nation in total active rail miles with 5,081 miles.
