COLUMBUS – Speaker Larry Householder today announced Matthew McAuliffe, most recently the Director of Cabinet Affairs & Special Advisor to the Governor, as Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy. In this role McAuliffe will lead the development and implementation of the Republican Caucus policy agenda.

McAuliffe has decades of experience solving problems, leading large-scale transformations, boosting performance, and doing it all under-budget. He has previously served as Chief of Staff for both the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Office of the Treasurer.

“Matthew has such a wide range of experience and we are excited to have him as a part of this exceptional team we’re assembling,” said Householder (R-Glenford). “His depth of knowledge will be essential as we shape the path forward to improving the lives of all Ohioans.”

McAuliffe became Deputy Chief of Staff for the Office of The Treasurer in 1999, later rising to Chief of Staff, where he served until 2004. McAuliffe then spent time in the private sector, first as Director of PNC Capital Markets and later as Senior VP for PNC Bank. In 2013, McAuliffe was named Executive Director of the Ohio Republican Party where he served until 2015 before accepting a position with the Ohio Department of Transportation as Chief of Staff.  He served at ODOT until 2017, and was most recently the Director of Cabinet Affairs & Special Advisor to the Governor.

McAuliffe’s early career experience includes solving legislative problems for clients of Strategic Global Policy as a Consultant, serving as Executive Assistant to the Chief of Staff for the Office of the Governor, Political Director for the Voinovich for Senate Campaign, and Lead Advance for the Bush Administration and Campaigns and the McCain Campaign. McAuliffe was a delegate to two Republican National Conventions.
