It was announced today that Ohio was the nation’s number-one job creator in May, with more than 32,000 new jobs created and an unemployment rate at 7 percent—half a point below the national average. Regarding the updated jobs numbers, Speaker of the Ohio House William G. Batchelder (R-Medina) released the following statement:

“Today we received tremendous news that the state of Ohio created more jobs in the month of May than any other state in the nation. At the same time that we received this great news, it was also announced that Ohio was one of only a handful of states to receive an A-rating in manufacturing-industry health and logistics-industry health in a report by Ball State University’s Center for Business and Economic Research. With these findings, workers can have greater confidence in the workplace while employers have a readily available, high-quality workforce at their fingertips.

“Led by Governor Kasich and the Republicans in the Legislature, Ohio’s state government is finally stepping out of the way of private-sector growth and removing the barriers that for too long hindered our economy. Since the House Republicans gained control of the gavel in January 2011, 170,400 new private-sector jobs were created in this state. I am very pleased by our progress and the positive results we are seeing. There is much more work to be done to get Ohioans the job training and opportunities they need, and I look forward to continuing our efforts in this regard.”
