COLUMBUS – State Representative Justin Pizzulli (R-Scioto County) is pleased to announce that Shawnee State University (SSU) was recently awarded grant funding from the Appalachian Regional Commission to support an economic and workforce development project.

SSU will receive $2 million to modernize and expand its industrial chemistry program through the addition of state-of-the-art equipment, enhanced curriculum, and new certificates, degrees, and professional development programs.

Using this funding, SSU will also develop three new programs of study related to the industrial chemistry field and implement chemistry outreach programming for K-12 students, serving more than 5,600 K-12 students, 25 organizations, and 10 businesses.

“Shawnee State has repeatedly stepped up to equip students and meet in-demand workforce needs and there is no other institution more deserving of this funding,” said Pizzulli. “This grant will directly spur workforce and economic development in our community.”
