Schmidt Sworn into 134th General Assembly

COLUMBUS – State Representative Jean Schmidt (R-Miami Twp.) was sworn into the 134th General Assembly of the Ohio House of Representative during last Monday’s House session. She will represent the residents of the 65th Ohio house district, which includes northwestern Clermont County.

“I am honored to be back in the Ohio House and eager to begin serving the needs of my constituents,” said Schmidt. “I look forward to working diligently through a tough state budget and working to get Ohio’s economy back on track during these challenging times brought upon by the pandemic.”

Schmidt is a dedicated public servant and has previously served in both the Ohio House of Representatives and the U.S. House of Representatives, spanning from 2001-2013. She was the first woman to serve southern Ohio in Congress. In her previous tenure at the Ohio House of Representatives, Rep. Schmidt dedicated her time to advocating for helping victims of domestic violence, protecting children from child predators and reforming K-12 education. 

In addition to public service, Schmidt has served as President of the Cincinnati Right to Life and on the Board of the Clermont County Public Library. Recently, she has enjoyed teaching Government and the Constitution at Chatfield College. She also coaches running for the St. Andrew-St. Elizabeth Seton Junior High Cross-County team, a position she has held for 22 years. 

Schmidt volunteers at City Gospel Mission helping victims of the drug crisis through therapeutic running and raining. She has completed 145 marathons in all 50 states, including 22 Boston Marathons.

Schmidt resides in Miami Township with her husband Peter. She has one grown daughter, Emilie, who is married to Nick and they have two sons.
