COLUMBUS – State Rep. Jason Stephens (R-Kitts Hill) recently introduced legislation to create an income tax credit for Ohioans who pay dog registration fees, encouraging greater participation in dog registration and tag purchases.
Under the legislation, Ohioans will receive an income tax credit equal to the amount paid in county dog registration fees, or $20 per registered dog, whichever is less.
“The goal of this legislation is to provide pet owners with a tax break while creating a mechanism to help prevent pet overpopulation,” said Stephens.
The measure awaits a bill number and House committee assignment.
