Rep. Sharon Ray Selected as the New Medina County Recorder

State Representative Sharon Ray (R-Wadsworth) today announced that she is resigning as state representative for House District 66 and that she has been appointed to be the Medina County Recorder. Ray will be sworn in as County Recorder on September 15, 2026.

Representative Ray served nearly three terms in the Ohio House and was the first woman to hold the seat in her district. In addition to serving as Chairwoman of the House General Government Committee, Ray was a member of the House Finance, Energy, and Children and Human Services committees.

“Sharon has served her district and the State of Ohio with dedication and integrity,” said Speaker Huffman. “I am grateful for her service in the House and the excellent work she has done as Chair of the General Government Committee. I congratulate her on this new position.”

"It is bittersweet to announce my early resignation from the Ohio House of Representatives,” said Ray. “Representing the 66th House District in Columbus has truly been an honor and a privilege, and I thank the voters for allowing me this opportunity.  It has truly been the highlight of my career."

Before serving in the House, Rep. Ray had a long history of public service. She previously served as a Medina County Commissioner and as Wadsworth City Councilwoman. She has also sat on the Medina County Board of Elections, United Way of Medina County, Red Cross of Medina County, Community Partnership for Arts and Culture, and the Salvation Army of Wadsworth.

Rep. Ray’s resignation will take effect today, September 14, 2026, at 11:59 pm.
