Rep. Robb Blasdel Announces Safe Routes to School Funding for Carroll County's Rockets Trail Project

State Representative Monica Robb Blasdel (R-New Waterford) is pleased to announce that the Village of Leesville in Carroll County has been awarded $197,700 through the Ohio Department of Transportation's (ODOT) Safe Routes to School program. The funding is part of an $8.8 million statewide investment announced this month by Governor Mike DeWine and ODOT Director Pamela Boratyn to help students walk and bike to school more safely.

The funding will support the Rockets Trail project, which includes design of a 2,700-foot shared-use path and a flashing sign and high-visibility crosswalk connecting the Village of Leesville cemetery to the Conotton Valley Schools campus along State Route 212, along with a new sidewalk from the school parking lot to the existing pedestrian bridge. The project is the first phase of a larger effort to extend the Conotton Creek Trail from Harrison County into Carroll County and the Village of Sherrodsville.

Statewide, ODOT's Safe Routes to School program is funding 17 projects across 14 counties this year, supporting infrastructure such as sidewalks, crosswalks, bike lanes, and traffic-calming features, along with school travel plans and safety education campaigns.

“Carroll County families deserve a safe path to school for their kids, whether they’re walking or biking,” said Rep. Robb Blasdel. “This funding for the Rockets Trail is a meaningful first step toward connecting our students safely to campus, and I’m glad to see District 79 included in this important statewide investment.”
