Rep. Anielski Presents House Resolution to Independence Girl's Golf Team
COLUMBUS—State Representative Marlene Anielski (R-Walton Hills) presented a resolution honoring the Independence High School Girls’ Golf Team on winning the 2017 Division II State Championship.
"Winning the state title was a dream that began four years ago. Everything that we did along the way was directed toward the potential of being state champions. The ladies of the tean worked tirelessly to improve through lessons, practice and competition. The dedication shown by the members of the team was fully rewarded with a most deserving championship," said Independence coach Karl Schuld.
Accepting the award was Coach Karl Schuld along with team members Lyndsay Blum, Maddie Harper, Allie Ksiazka, Madeline Mindzora, Emma McGreal, Morgan Pascarella, and Sophia Trombetta.
“I am honored to be able to present such an accomplished and dedicated group of young ladies a resolution commending them for their talented athletic performance,” said Rep. Anielski. “They have shown a dedication to their sport, their team, and their school that marks them as not only exceptional athletes, but students too!”
Independence won the 2017 title with 652 strokes, breaking the state record by six strokes. The team was established just four short years ago and has built an impressive record of success. Titles include three sectional and two district titles, a second place finish in the state tournament in 2016, and now their first state championship.
"The entire Independence community is so proud of the Girls' Varsity Golf team earning a state championship in only its 4th year of existence,” said Principal Bill McGuinness. “The ladies are champions on the course, in the classroom, and in our city. Thanks to Coach Schuld and all of our girls' golf parents for all of their efforts. Congratulations to our history-making team!"
