The Ohio House Healthcare Efficiencies Study Committee today held its first hearing at the ProMedica Flower Hospital in Sylvania. The committee, chaired by State Representative Dr. Steve Huffman (R-Tipp City), held a graduate medical education panel to discuss healthcare models in Northwest Ohio that the Ohio House can help support and promote.

"I was very appreciative of the discussion between the committee and our expert panel on Graduate Medical Education," Huffman said. "We learned about the need for more primary care physicians in Ohio, and the intricacies of GME funding. Today was the first step to discovering how Ohio can work to make healthcare more efficient."

In addition to House members serving on the committee, healthcare professionals from around the state joined the discussion. Dr. Robert Frederick (ProMedica), Dr. Christopher Cooper (University of Toledo), Dr. Andrew Thomas (The Ohio State University), Dr. Ken Bertka (American Academy of Family Physicians), Dr. Robert E. Kose (Ohio State Medical Association) and Dr. Timothy Barreiro (St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital) participated in the panel.

The next meeting of the Ohio House Healthcare Efficiencies Study Committee, the second of four planned meetings around the state, will take place on Tuesday, September 8th at 1:00 p.m. at Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, Ohio.
