Ohio Governor Signs House Bill 492 into Law

COLUMBUS – State Representatives Sharon Ray (R-Wadsworth) and Cindy Abrams (R-Harrison) are pleased to announce that Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has signed House Bill 492 into law.
House Bill 492, sponsored by Ray and Abrams, modifies Ohio law to require motor vehicle drivers to disclose their name, address, and date of birth to a law enforcement officer upon request during a lawful traffic stop for a Title 45 violation.
The new law aims to provide law enforcement officers with the information needed to identify potentially dangerous individuals during traffic stops, helping improve the safety of officers and the communities they serve. The legislation also expands the offense of interfering with an arrest, increasing the penalty to a second-degree misdemeanor.
“House Bill 492 will make traffic stops safer for the officer, the driver, and the community and I thank the Governor for his support with this,” said Rep. Ray.
“Our law enforcement face risk each day they put their uniform on and start their shift,” said Rep. Abrams. “Traffic stops, gun runs, and domestic violence calls are the some of the most dangerous calls for our police. House Bill 492 provides our law enforcement with an extra tool in the toolbox as they work to keep our communities safe.”
House Bill 492 was signed by the Governor and will take effect 90 days after being filed with the Ohio Secretary of State.
