COLUMBUS—New Lexington City Schools was recently awarded funding to support their efforts to expand workforce development and wellness accessibility, announced State Rep. Mark Johnson (R-Chillicothe).

New Lexington will receive $16.4 million through the Appalachian Community Innovation Centers Program to renovate and upgrade the health clinic, add specialized classrooms and labs, expand the Workforce Development Center, and create a multi-purpose area for training, physical health, and wellness.

“Investing in locations where the community can receive care and education opportunities is vital to Perry County’s physical and economic health,” said Johnson. “I thank the Appalachian Community Innovation Centers Program for their investment in the region. It continues to be an honor to represent the 92nd House District.”

More than $88 million was awarded to help 11 Appalachian school districts improve public health and enhance workforce development in their areas.
