Morrow, Wyandot Counties Awarded Funding for Jail Renovation Projects

COLUMBUS – State Rep. Riordan McClain (R-Upper Sandusky) is pleased to announce that Morrow and Wyandot counties will receive significant funding for jail improvements through the Ohio Jail Safety and Security Program.

Specifically, Morrow County will receive over $4.3 million for renovation projects. Built in 1996, the security upgrades to the Morrow County Correctional Facility will increase the building’s safety.

Wyandot County will receive over $19.4 million to construct a new jail. The existing jail is one of the oldest in the state and dates back to 1846. The project will increase the number of available beds in the jail and provide additional beds for people with special needs.

“Small-town communities like ours have been stretching resources to meet the challenges they face. This funding from the Ohio Jail Safety and Security Program will go a long way to meet the needs of the facilities moving forward,” said McClain. “To protect inmates and the staff at our county facilities, safety and security improvements need to be made.”

In total, over $78 million was awarded to five jail revitalization projects across the state.
