Legislation Aimed to Increase Number of Career Technical Education Instructors Passes Ohio House

COLUMBUS-The Ohio House today passed House Bill 432, legislation that creates alternative licensure pathways for Career-Technical Education (CTE) instructors, announced State Rep. Don Jones (R-Freeport).

The measure will eliminate unnecessary burdens to license more CTE instructors by making the following changes:

Permit an applicant to apply for an initial career-technical workforce development educator license instead of needing an employing school district to apply on behalf of the applicant.
Permit an educator who has received an offer of employment to enroll in one of two alternative educator preparation programs instead of a career-technical workforce development educator preparation program offered by an institution of higher education.
Require the State Board of Education to issue a career-technical educator license to certain individuals who are already validly licensed educators.
 

“House Bill 432 will create a larger pool of CTE instructors and better equip career tech planning districts to meet the growing number of students in CTE programs,” said Jones. “The legislation does not lower that standard of CTE instructors but instead creates alternative pathways for qualified instructors to obtain licensure.”

House Bill 432 awaits further consideration from the Ohio Senate.
