COLUMBUS – State Representative Laura Lanese (R-Grove City) last Friday was recognized by Bridgeway Academy for her work advocating for children with autism and developmental disabilities. Lanese received the Bridge Builder Award at Bridgeway Academy’s signature event, AmazeAbility Al Fresco.

“The mission of Bridgeway Academy is an important one, and I will continue to advocate for more funds to go to impactful organizations like Bridgeway Academy. I’m only one voice for these students, so I am especially honored to be recognized by Bridgeway Academy for my advocacy to improve the lives of those with developmental disabilities, but the teachers, parents and staff deserve the most credit,” said Lanese.

Last Friday’s event highlighted the work of Bridgeway Academy to raise more funds to directly impact the lives of the organization’s students, clients and families. The award Lanese received recognized her leadership and support for the education of children with developmental disabilities. The award is intended to honor community leaders who have worked tirelessly in support of Bridgeway Academy and its mission to “inspire the potential and celebrate the ability of every child.”

According to Bridgeway Academy, the funds that Lanese championed were instrumental in Bridgeway Academy’s recent expansion, as the organization combined its smaller, two-site operation into one 115,000-square-foot building. The newly-renovated building was designed specifically for the needs of students on the autism spectrum.

Bridgeway Academy provides a centered approach to education and therapy services for more than 300 individuals with autism and developmental disabilities. Since 2005, the organization’s goal has been to help each individual reach their highest potential. Bridgeway Academy provides outstanding school day education for students in preschool-grade 12, summer camp, and outpatient therapy services in speech, music, physical and occupational therapies, psychological services and evaluations.
