Hall, Isaacsohn Reintroduce Legislation to Provide Property Tax Relief to Ohio Seniors
COLUMBUS— State Representatives Thomas Hall (R-Madison Twp.) and Dani Isaacsohn (D-Cincinnati) today reintroduced legislation to protect older Ohioans, often living on fixed incomes, from rising property taxes.
Under the legislation, individuals are eligible for a property tax freeze if 1) they are sixty-five years of age or older, 2) their income does not exceed fifty thousand dollars, 3) they have owned their home for two or more years, and 4) the value of their home for the given tax year does not exceed $500,000.
“The goal of this bill is to ensure Ohio seniors are able to age in their homes and continue to be active participants in society,” said Hall. “This commonsense bill will directly shield vulnerable Ohioans from drastic increases in property taxes.”
“We should never be taxing seniors out of their homes,” said Isaacsohn. “By recognizing the unique challenges faced by seniors and providing them with financial relief, Ohio can become a more inclusive and supportive place to grow old.”
Hall and Isaacsohn cite the recent increases in property taxes in many Ohio counties as the driving factor behind this bill.
The legislation awaits a bill number and House committee assignment.
