State Representative Marlene Anielski (R-Walton Hills) and the city of Brecksville's Senior Organization hosted a Military Benefits Fair on Friday, February 28th. The event, attended by many local veterans, was by all accounts a tremendous success.

The benefits fair took place at the Brecksville Community Center and featured a variety of organizations geared towards helping those who have served our country, no matter what era, as well as their spouses and families. Throughout the day, hundreds of people attended, and there were agency representatives and local businesses who assisted military personnel and their families to sign up for their benefits and other services.

Jason Dominguez, Assistant Director of the Ohio Department of Veterans Services, was the featured speaker of the afternoon.

“All of our military personnel have given personal sacrifices in leaving their loved ones to protect our freedoms,” Rep Anielski said. “It is of the utmost importance that we make sure that all those who have served, no matter what era and no matter in what capacity, are aware of the benefits and services that they deserve.”

“We are proud that we could partner with Representative Anielski to provide this service for our military personnel both past and present,” said Ted Lux, Brecksville Senior Coordinator. “It was a great morning and I hope we can do it again next year.”

Cuyahoga Valley Career Center cosmetology and nursing students were on hand to provide free haircuts and blood pressure screenings to all veterans and their families. “We enjoyed taking time out of our day to give back to those who gave so much to us,” said Marilyn Mormile.

“The students in the Practical Nursing program at the School of Nursing at Cuyahoga Valley Career Center were pleased and honored to be able to check blood pressures on our veterans, who have given so much to  us,” said Laura Robusto, CVCC Nursing Instructor.

Participating organizations:

Cuyahoga County Veterans Service Commission, Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center, Ohio Veterans Bonus Team, Ohio Veterans Home, Ohio Treasurer’s Office, Cleveland Regional Benefit Office, Wags 4 Warriors, Cuyahoga Valley Career Center, Stark County Veterans Center, Senior Helpers, United Way of Greater Cleveland, and Cuyahoga County Board of Elections.
