Shayla L. Davis appointed to 11th Ohio House District, sworn in as state representative
COLUMBUS—State Rep. Shayla L. Davis (D-Cleveland) today was officially appointed and sworn in to fill the vacancy as state representative to the 11th Ohio House District.
“I couldn't be more excited to continue my public service as the Ohio House District 11 Representative. I want to thank Leader Russo and the members of the House Democratic Caucus for this appointment. We have some of most challenging issues plaguing District 11, but together we can confront them. I am a passionate, dedicated servant leader who will continue to fight for the diversity, equity and inclusion within District 11,” said Rep. Davis.
Rep. Davis outlined her top priorities Wednesday, which include:
· Preventing maternal, infant mortality and morbidity;
· Combating poverty;
· Ensuring fair and equitable opportunity for all within the judicial system;
· Creating quality education and workforce development;
· Investing in minority business to ensure access to resources;
· Protecting collective bargaining;
· Increasing public transportation funding.
Prior to her appointment to the 11th District seat, Rep. Davis served as a city council member for the City of Garfield Heights where she was Chair of the Communication and Technology Committee, and a member of the Finance, Public Safety and Legislative Committees.
She has previously worked for multiple government agencies throughout her career such as the Cuyahoga County Public Defender's Office, Cuyahoga County Board of Health and the City of Cleveland Municipal Court.
The 11th House District includes all or parts of Cleveland, Garfield Heights and Newbury Heights.
