Reps. Russo, Sobecki ask Jobs and Family Services to Automatically Redetermine Benefits to Slow Spread of Coronavirus
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Lisa Sobecki (D-Toledo), and State Rep. Allison Russo (D-Upper Arlington), sent a letter today to Ohio Jobs and Family Services (ODJFS) Director Kimberly Hall, asking for ODJFS to institute Automatic Redetermination for Benefits in order to slow the spread of COVID-19.
“As a former JFS caseworker, I know that JFS has instituted Automatic Redetermination in the past, and it is a prudent course of action now in light of this crisis,” said State Rep. Sobecki. “It is important that we do everything we can to slow the spread of the Coronavirus. This will drastically reduce the amount of individuals visiting a JFS location, and will help curb the spread of the virus.”
“The impact of COVID-19 to the economy will likely result in an unprecedented need for many of Ohio’s most vulnerable children and families,” said Rep. Russo. “Instituting Automatic Redetermination significantly reduces barriers to these important benefits while also reducing the risk of virus exposure and spread.”
The letter to Director Hall asks that Automatic Redetermination be implemented immediately for all individuals and families on food stamps, cash and medical benefits, and continue to the end of the outbreak.
