Rep. Sobecki: Administration's broken promises hurt Ohio families
State Rep. Lisa Sobecki (D-Toledo) issued a statement today blasting comments made by Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services Director Matt Damschroder to unemployed workers who have continued to see delays and other issues with the state’s outdated and overwhelmed unemployment insurance system.
“For nearly a year and a half, Ohioans have been told to be patient and that a fix is coming for our broken unemployment system. The truth is there’s been no fix and the people’s patience is wearing thin,” said Rep. Sobecki. “Thousands of Ohioans still can’t access the benefits they paid into. Many can’t afford to pay rent or their mortgage, make their next car payment, or shop for school supplies for their children. How much longer do they have to hold on? Till they lose their home or access to reliable transportation? How then will they apply for work to qualify for benefits or rejoin the workforce? The administration’s response to our unemployment crisis lacks the urgency, empathy and competence we need to ensure our system works now and in the future. The time for waiting is over. We need urgent action.”
