State Rep. Beth Liston (D-Dublin) issued a statement following Wednesday’s initial meeting of the Joint Committee on Congressional Redistricting. The committee is required to hold two public hearings on proposed congressional maps before the legislature can pass a map.

“Ohioans have repeatedly told us they want fair maps.  Today yet again voters came forward to reject partisan Republican maps that split our largest counties in every direction and unduly favor GOP candidates 13-2.

“Ohioans don’t want partisan maps made to benefit politicians. In 2018, some 200,000 people signed a petition to fix the rigged system.  74.9 percent of Ohioans voted for reforms to end gerrymandering.  It’s time for us to listen to people and make sure that communities that live, work and play together can choose their representative. The map proposed by House Democrats in HB 483 does this.  Those presented by the Republicans do not.”
