Rep. Kelly's bill to create Veterinarian Student Debt Assistance Program signed into law

State Rep. Brigid Kelly (D-Cincinnati) today announced that House Bill (HB) 67, her bill to create the Veterinarian Student Debt Assistance Program, was signed into law Saturday by the governor. 

“This is bipartisan, commonsense legislation to assist veterinarians financially, while also responsibly curbing the issue of pet overpopulation in Ohio,” said Rep. Kelly. “HB 67 is good for workers and for the economy as it will help attract and retain veterinary talent in our state.”

HB 67 allows the State Veterinary Medical Licensing Board to repay all or part of any educational loans taken out by a veterinarian while in veterinary college. Applicants for the program must agree to perform charitable veterinarian services, such as free spay and neutering services, and reside in Ohio for a set period of time. 

The legislation will take effect 90 days from Saturday, Jan. 9, the day it was signed into law.
